Visit by the Director of HKU SPACE, Professor C.F. Lee.
SKUDAI, JOHOR BAHRU, 18th January 2010 – HKUSPACE is the business arm of Hong Kong University, whose focuses on contributing towards continuing education in Hong Kong. Prof C.F. Lee, the Director of HKUSPACE, arrived in UTMSPACE as a visiting professor. The objective of his visit is to advise and give his opinions on UTMSPACE’s operation by sharing his experience in running HKUSPACE. Prof C.F Lee arrived in UTMSPACE Headquarters at 9 am. Then he was given a brief presentation about UTMSPACE by Mr. Salleh Kassim, Head of Marketing & Corporate Communication Unit. Later he was given a tour around UTMSPACE HQ. Prof C.F Lee is also the Chair Professor of Geotechnical Engineering. Professor Lee graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering in 1968, and a Master’s degree in 1970. He received his Ph.D from the university of Western Ontario in 1972, in the field of geotechnical engineering.
Visit From PT Perkebunan Nusantara VI (PERSERO) from Republic of Indonesia to UTMSPACE.
On 16th November 2009, a delegation from PT Perkebunan Nusantara VI (PERSERO) from Indonesia visited UTM SPACE. The delegation was led by its Chairman, Bapak Marzuki Usman, along with Bapak Zainal and Ibu Rita as the head of Training and Development Unit. The objective of their visit is to discuss on collaboration programs and Professional training. The discussion they also focus on the opportunity to exchange expertise on training and development between UTMSPACE and PERSERO. They were given a tour of UTMSPACE.

UNSRI STUDENTS RECEIVED ‘UTM STUDENT MOBILITY PROGRAM’ CERTIFICATE
All 28 students from Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI), Palembang has successfully participated in UTM Student Mobility Program for a semester from 17 June until 13 November 2009. They were enrolled at Faculty of Computer Science and Information System (FSKSM), UTM.
A special farewell ceremony was held at De’ Tropika Café, UTM on 03 November 2009. Associate Professor Ir Fatimah Mohd Noor delivered the welcoming speech. She thanked the students for choosing UTM, encouraged them to work hard and welcomes them to UTM for their Masters or PhD. She also expressed UTMSPACE gratitude to FSKSM for choosing UTMSPACE to manage the program.
According to UNSRI students’ representative, Arsendi, the students are very happy and grateful for the kindness and hospitality of UTM and . They will miss UTM and the Malaysian experience. The lecturers are friendly and helpful. They really enjoyed the program.

UTMSPACE Students Participating In UTM Global Outreach Program To Jakarta
On 06-10 October 2009, 19 UTMSPACE students of the Bachelor of (Management) program offered by the Faculty of Management and Human Resource, UTM went to Jakarta for an industrial visit under the UTM Global Outreach Program. The industrial visit program is part of the research project for the 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students. The group was supervised by En Ahmad Sharifuddin bin Shamsuddin. The program was partly sponsored by UTMSPACE . The main objectives are to allow the students to learn and explore the subject of marketing and branding in a different cultural environment, to relate and apply what they had studied in a real situation and to effectively communicate and improve team spirit among group members.
The students were involved in a seminar, dialog and discussion with lecturers and students from Universitas Persada Indonesia – YAI. They also visited Museum Keramik, Museum Fatahilah, Tugu Monument Nasional (MONAS), ITC Cempaka, Senayan City, ITC Mangga 2, Bandung Factory outlets and Pasar Baru.
Habibah Othman, one of the program participant, commented that “ The global outreach program to Indonesia had opens my mind towards their culture, lifestyle, economic and politic. I have a better understanding on marketing and branding through knowledge transferred between UTMSPACE students and Universitas Persada’s. The visit also strengthens the working relationships between participating students and the most important is I have been able to apply the relevant knowledge gain in my daily life.”

A VISIT TO HONG KONG UNIVERSITY & HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY
On 4th October, a delegation from UTMSPACE were in Hong Kong for a visit. The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Mohd Azraai Bin Kassim, DVC (A&I), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khairul Anuar Bin Abdullah, Dean of UTMSPACE , and Mr. Salleh Kassim, Head of Marketing and Customer Relations Unit, UTMSPACE. The objectives of the visit were to discuss and to observe the opportunity for co-operation and learn from their experience.

The first visit was to Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU) and their lifelong learning centre, Center of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE). There were a lot of experiences sharing sesion as well as discussion for co-operation. After the discussion, the delegation was brought around the CPCE building to observe the facilities for the students. The delegation later met Dr Siileyman Demokan, Vice President of HK PolyU, who shared information on the strength and the success of HK PolyU as one of the public universities in Hong Kong. HK PolyU will open the door for cooperation with UTM in research, students and staff exchange and also in lifelong learning programmes.

On the next day, the delegation visited Hong Kong University(HKU) and Hong Kong University SPACE (HKU SPACE), the lifelong learning centre of HKU. The delegation were briefed by The Deputy Director (Academic) of HKU SPACE about the history, development and achievement of HKU SPACE from 1956 until todate. The delegation later were brought around the campus of HKU. Later, the delegation visited Centre for International Degree Programmes (CIDP), Center for Executive Development & Corporate Training (CEC) and Center for Research in Continuing Education & Lifelong Learning. During this trip, the delegation had the oppurtunity to meet the Director of HKU SPACE, Prof. Dr. C.F Lee, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President of HKU, Prof. Dr. Joseph H.W Lee.

WORKING VISIT TO BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
On 21st – 23rd July 2009, UTMSPACE visited Brunei for a two day working visit lead by the Dean himself, Associate Professor Dr. Khairul Anuar Abdullah. UTMSPACE is promoting its Professional Development and Lifelong Learning Program to Brunei as part of its internationalization program. The delegation visited 7 organizations namely HAD Technologies, Ministry of Development, Jabatan Ukur, Institut Teknologi Brunei, Majlis Kebangsaan Pengiktirafan Kelulusan Negara Brunei Darussalam, Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) and Institut Latihan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei. UTMSPACE has appointed HAD Technologies as its smart partner in Brunei. A few programs have been identified to be conducted in Brunei by the end of the year.

UTM STUDENT MOBILITY PROGRAM – UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA PALEMBANG, INDONESIA
UTMSPACE in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science and Information System, UTM has engaged in promoting the UTM Student Mobility Program. There were 28 students from the Faculty of Information System, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang, Indonesia enrolled in the program. They arrived on 17 June 2009 and will be in UTM for a semester. The students had participated in UTMSPACE mini summer course. They spent a few days at Endau Rompin National Park, Selai and studied the flora and fauna and experienced the jungle’s life. They also stayed with their host family at Kampong Sejagong, Sri Medan, Batu Pahat through homestay program. They participated in various cultural activities such as wedding ceremony, ‘Hari Raya Sekampong’, ‘Kuda Kepang’ dance and traditional games. The students wre involved in community services such as repairing old folk home and cleaning school compound together with the local villagers.

MARKETING VISIT TO SINGAPORE
UTMSPACE visited Trent Global Singapore (TG) on 12 March 2009. Mr Teng Kwok Kheong, Chief Executive of Trent Global chaired the discussion. UTMSPACE was represented by Zulkifli Osman and Sarazmin Abd Razak. The main objective of the visit was to promote Professional Development Programs in Singapore. Currently, Trent Global offers UTMSPACE Specialist Diploma in Singapore.

SHORT COURSE ON LEAKAGE AND NON-REVENUE WATER AT PT. ADHYA TIRTA BATAM
PT. Adhya Tirta Batam (ATB) is the main supplier for drinking water to some 800,000 people in Batam, Indonesia. UTMSPACE conducted an in-house training at ATB on ‘Leakage and NRW Water’ on 17-18 March 2009. There were 30 ATB staff attending the training which was facilitated by Associate Professor Ir Fatimah Mohd Noor of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM.

PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITY ON UTM AND UTMSPACE PROGRAMS IN TANJUNG PINANG, INDONESIA
15 February 2009 – UTMSPACE held a promotional activity on UTM and UTMSPACE programs at the Hotel Sampurna Jaya, Tanjungpinang, Indonesia. A total of 60 participants attended the presentation including Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Drs. H. Maswardi M.Amin, UMRAH lecturers, teachers and students. The main objective is to promote UTM as a centre of academic and technological excellence to neighboring countries.

SHORT COURSE ON QUALITY ASSURANCE AT PROVINSI KEPULAUAN RIAU
UTMSPACE has successfully conducted a short course on Quality Assurance at the Comfort Hotel, Tanjongpinang on 10 January 2009. Professor Dr. Shahrin Muhamad of Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM was one of the facilitator. There were 27 participants mainly from Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji, Polytechnic and high school around Tanjong Pinang.
