School of Professional and Continuing
Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or better known as UTMSPACE
began in July 1993 when it was established in accordance to the government’s
call to increase the number of quality human resource in the country.
UTMSPACE provides an alternative path in education to give
opportunities to those lacking the chance to follow the mainstream education
In the early years of its establishment, UTMSPACE offered
professional development programmes such as short courses, seminars, workshops
and in-house training. However, with the overwhelming demands for part-time
educational programmes among workers in both private and public sectors,
UTMSPACE took the initiative of offering mainstream academic programmes
on a part-time basis starting from the academic year 1995/96. Currently, the
Part-Time Academic Programmes are offering the courses at Diploma and
Undergraduate level, according to the courses offered by the Faculties in UTM.
For customer’s convenience, the classes are conducted at 17 learning centres all
over the country.
UTMSPACE Professional Programmes offer short courses in various soft skills and technical skills subjects. Tailor-made
short courses which are specifically designed based on the organisation’s needs are also available. UTM Professional Skills
Certificate programmes are offered to fulfil industry’s demands that prioritize quality graduates in all aspects. The programmes
are value-added courses to future graduates, giving them a competitive-edge as they venture into employment market. UTMSPACE also
acts as event managers by organising series of Seminars and Conferences at national and international levels.
In tandem with its mission to provide quality continuing education services, UTMSPACE continues to offer a variety of
programmes such as Executive Diploma programmes and English Language programmes. Executive Diploma programmes are targeted at
employees who want to improve their knowledge and skill. English Language programmes aim to help students, especially
international students, in increasing their English Language skills as a preparation in continuing their undergraduate or
postgraduate studies at the faculties. The programmes are also meant to assist local public and working adults in improving
their communicative English skills at the workplace.
In line with UTMSPACE vision to be the centre of excellence in continuing education, , UTMSPACE will from time to time,
identify and attempt to fulfil the community’s demands. Promotions and marketings are aggressively carried out as an effort to
strengthen UTM and UTMSPACE brands. In 2010, with the upgrading of UTM as a Research University, UTMSPACE has been entrusted to
take over and manage UTM College of Science and Technology (KST) and the Joint Programme Management Unit (UPPK). With the merger,
UTMSPACE is fully responsible for the implementation of Full-Time Diploma programme and Joint Diploma Programme conducted in
collaboration with 17 private colleges.
In 2011, UTMSPACE marked its own history on 28th January 2011, when UTMSPACE was officially registered as a Limited
Company by Guarantee. With this change, UTMSPACE now acts as a business branch of UTM which concentrates on the development
of lifelong learning. In line with its mission, UTMSPACE aims to lead the development of innovative and creative human capital
through quality lifelong education.
